Father Knows Best Radio Show

For a small taste of this great series,
listen to the preview below.

This show comes on CD In MP3 Format

Father Knows Best was a popular radio sitcom of the 1950s, which portrayed a vision of middle-class American life of the era. Much like Leave It To Beaver, there are those who say life back then wasn't really the way it was portrayed in these types of shows. However, as one who grow up in that era, I can say for me and my friends, and those we knew in the community, life really was like this. These types of shows could have taken place in our own households.

Father Knows Best was created by writer Ed James, who made an audition radio tape on December 20, 1948. In the audition, the father is known as Jim Henderson rather than Jim Anderson. Eight months later, the series began August 25, 1949, on NBC Radio.

Set in the Midwest, it starred Robert Young as General Insurance agent Jim Anderson. His wife Margaret was first portrayed by June Whitley and later by Jean Vander Pyl. The Anderson children were Betty (Rhoda Williams), Bud (Ted Donaldson) and Kathy (Norma Jean Nillson).

Sponsored by General Foods, the series was heard Thursday evenings on NBC until November 19, 1953. After years of success on the radio, the show moved to TV, only Robert Young remained of the radio cast when the series moved to CBS television, beginning October 3, 1954.

There are over 90 episodes and better then 45 hours of wonderful 1950s life and hilarity contained on the CD.
